Alpaca Farm

I fulfilled my new dream of going to a real live alpaca farm last Saturday. It was amazing. There were 5 new babies, most born in the last 5 weeks, one being born the day before. Babies alpaca are called Cria, pictured here...

I went with my women's group from church to learn about God's creatures, and how to take care of them. We learned an interesting tid bit about breeding of Alpacas. If a female is pregnant, and approaches a male, she will rear back and spit on him. If she isn't pregnant she will lay down and prepare to mate. Our wonderful guides led a female and male out to meet in the hallway to see and show us if she was pregnant. She was not pregnant, but little did we know we were going to get the whole show. Yes, we saw alpacas perpetuating the species, and I don't think anyone will be the same. It was rad.

Puttin the Garden to Bed

Honestly, It is shameful how I treated garden at the end of the season last year. And none of this "Well Libby, you were planning a wedding" business (which went over wonderfully, by the way, pics to come), no, this was inexcusable. Leaving fruits on the vines in the ground? None of the fertile soil covered from the elements? The last row of beets laying in disappointing anticipation of a canning session that would never come? Come on Libby, you, of all people should know better.

The time of atonement has come. Today I have loved my garden the way it has always needed to be loved. I started my own compost pile, complete with dead leaves from last fall, tomato plant carcasses and rotting squash. It is beautiful. I disposed of all weeds in my raised beds, turned the soil, and laid a fresh blanket of dead leaves on top to keep moisture in till spring. I don't want to brag, but it is amazing.

These are some sweet weeds which came out in one pull. There is something extremely gratifying about weeding in moist soil.

First of three beds done, all of which were completed before the snow fell tonight.
Divine intervention leading to perfect timing.

I love compost.

Sky Box Wedding

Theme-simple and elegant, a single white phaleonopsis orchid was used on each table to give height and elegance to the reception hall. We used river rocks, collect from Idaho's Payette river, to make rock sculptures at each table. Significantly less expensive than doing cut flower arrangements for each table. Fabulous!!!!

Note the orchid on the table behind the bride.

Close up on the blooms. Bride's choice included green and white hydrangeas, jade roses, green chrysanthemums, and some killer greenery!

The skybox was an interesting space to design. The architechture was beautiful, and very modern, and needed some large pieces to make a presence. Two of these arrangements were used at the altar, one on either side of the couple.

In Memory

Our family has been so blessed with longevity, that it has rare for us to see the loss of a loved one. This past August, after Grandpa Driebergen's passing, I really wanted to honor him and comfort those attending his funeral with flowers fit for a 'good ole boy'. Below is his obituary, he wrote himself! What an amazing man, we will miss you grandpa!

Flowers for hipsters!

Welcome to Leafy Greens!

I am really pumped about this new endevor. I have a dream for my local Boise area, which includes fulfilling 2 goals

1. Produce floral art for weddings, gatherings, and for special days

2. Make flowers HIP by using non-traditional, green approaches to creating fresh arrangements.

I am excited to use mix media, recycled materials, and clean concepts to help accomplish those goals! Shoot, soon, Leafy Green deliveries in the local area will be done by bicycle, a cart, and two good legs! Stay tuned for pics!
